Read Romans 8:18-25

We know that all creation has been groaning as in the pains

of childbirth right up to the present time. And we believers

also groan, even though we have the Holy Spirit within us

as a foretaste of future glory, for we long for our bodies to be

released from sin and suffering. We, too, wait with eager hope

for the day when God will give us our full rights as his adopted

children, including the new bodies he has promised us.

ROMANS 8:22-23

We see in Paul’s other writings this powerful principle that the Spirit within us is our down payment for our new life awaiting us on heaven’s shores. In Ephesians 1:14, he says, “The Spirit is God’s guarantee that he will give us the inheritance he promised and that he has purchased us to be his own people. He did this so we would praise and glorify him.” In 2 Corinthians 1:22, he reminds us that God “has identified us as his own by placing the Holy Spirit in our hearts as the first installment that guarantees everything he has promised us.”

What will happen will be more glorious than what has happened. His kingdom is here, and it is coming—the great conundrum of the now and the not yet. You see this also praised by Paul in 2 Corinthians 5:1-5:
